GALLERY - THE PRESIDENT'S CHARITY EVENING (E14m)

Back to Gallery (top page)

For the evening of Friday, 17th October 2014, the outgoing Club President, Eric Locke, arranged a most splendid entertainment in the Ewyas Harold Memorial Hall. It was a Charity Event for The Alzheimer's Society and had a Victorian Theme. There were well over 100 attendees. The evening commenced at 7.30 pm with a video of an event in the early 1980s by a local group, 'The Victorians' (some members of which were in the audience and had not seen the video before), who sang & danced in the style of a Victorian troupe of performing artists. It was an inspired way to start the evening for it was hugely entertaining and clearly led to many reminiscences! Then came the 2-course meal by Mary Powell, as good as ever. There was very little in the way of speeches but there was a short talk by a lady from the local branch of The Alzheimer's Society (web site here). The evening was not over - for there was then another entertainment, with a performance by a troupe from Moseley Village, Birmingham, that was very much in keeping with the Victorian Theme. It is never easy to sum up an evening such as this, for comments such as 'much enjoyed by all' sound very hackneyed, but this truly was an excellent evening - and it really did seem that everyone very much enjoyed it. Well done Eric!
