MEMORIAL HALL JUBILEE CONCERT (E15Z)

The Memorial Hall in Ewyas Harold plays an important part in the lives of many people in the Golden Valley. It was the venue for the Monthly Meetings of our Probus Club for a few years and it is still used by the Club for Special Events. The Hall was opened in 1955. On Saturday, 7th November 2015, a Concert was held in the Hall to commemorate its 60th Jubilee. This was not one of the Club's own Events, for it was organised by the Memorial Hall's own Committee, but it was well supported by the Club. The Concert started at about 7.30pm and lasted for about 2 hours.

The Concert was introduced by Rev. Eric Locke, a longstanding Probus Club Member and Club President from October 2012 to October 2014. He provided a short history of the Hall (for more on which see the Hall's web site at www.ewyasharoldmemorialhall.co.uk) before welcoming the First Act.

The First Half of the Concert was provided by 'Grace Notes', the Women's Institute's County Choir. They sang a number of songs, ranging from the 1920s to the 1990s, several of which had the audience enthusiastically joining-in.

During the Interval, Herbert Collins, a longstanding Probus Club Member, made a presentation to Mr. Graham Sprackling whose many & varied services to the Community over several decades have been and remain much appreciated.

The Second Half of the Concert was provided by 'The Probus Platoon' which was led by David Bond (Probus Club Secretary) & Martyn Guy (Probus Member and piano legend). As may be seen from the photos below, the Platoon contained some people who were not Members of the Club but the majority were indeed Members of the Club (with Andrew, Fred & Graham H. joining David & Martyn). The theme of their songs was 'Songs from The World Wars'. This proved to be great entertainment, with the audience participating with great gusto.

The Concert ended with Eric Locke leading the Thanks to the performers, those who had organised the Concert, and other supporters.
