GALLERY - MINI BREAK TO YORKSHIRE |
With pick-ups from outside the Temple Bar (at 8.30am), Mark's, David's, the Memorial Hall (with its large car park), and Pontrilas, most people did not have far to take their luggage to the coach. We left just before 9am. Ray provided us all with a folder of notes & maps on where we were going that proved to be very useful.
Apart from a comfort stop at the Tamworth service station, the first main stop was at Bakewell where we were able to wander around and have lunch. We knew that it was market day there but, even so, were surprised how busy it was. Our second main stop was in Holmfrith, known (to some) as the town where bits of the TV series 'Last of the summer wine' were filmed. The final stage of the journey took us to the hotel where we were to stay each night - The St. George Hotel in Harrogate. One of the Coast & Country Group of hotels, it is right in the centre of the town and so was very well placed for those of us who wanted to stroll around to see what Harrogate has to offer. That location did mean that some of those who had bedrooms on the main street side of the hotel found that things could be a bit noisier than they would have liked. Otherwise, the hotel proved itself to be an excellent choice, being very comfortable, with the food generally viewed as very good, and the staff being friendly & helpful.
